BORIC ACID (Acidum boricum).
Scales colourless, brilliant, slightly fat to the touch or small crystal powder. It is soluble in cold (1: 25) and it is easy (1: 4) - in the boiling water, it is soluble (1: 25) in alcohol. Aqueous solutions have subacidic reaction.
Boric acid possesses antiseptic activity. At topical administration (in the form of ointment) has also antipedikulezny effect.
Drug well gets through skin and mucous membranes, especially at children of early age; it is slowly brought out of an organism and can collect in bodies and fabrics.
Widely used earlier boric acid as an antiseptic agent at adults and children. Recently, in connection with the revealed by - effects, restrictions to its use are brought.
Apply boric acid at adults. Appoint in the form of 2% of aqueous solution for washing of a conjunctival sac at conjunctivitis; 3% use solution for lotions at the becoming wet eczema, dermatitis.
Spirit solutions of 0,5% , 1% , 2% and 3% use in the form of drops with at acute and chronic otitis (the turundas moistened with solution enter into acoustical pass), and also for processing of affected areas of skin at a pyoderma, eczema, an intertrigo.

When using boric acid, especially at overdose and prolonged use and at renal failures, emergence of acute and chronic toxic reactions is possible: nausea, vomitings, diarrheas, skin rash, desquamation of an epithelium, a headache, confusion of consciousness, spasms, an oliguria, in rare instances - a depressed case.
Use of boric acid is contraindicated to patients with renal failures, to nursing mothers for processing of mammary glands, to children (including the newborn), to pregnant women and persons with individual intolerance. It is not necessary to apply drugs of boric acid on extensive body surfaces.
Release forms: powder in packages on 10 and 25 g; 0,5% ; 1% ; 2% and 3% spirit solutions in bottles on 10 ml; 10% solution in glycerin in bottles on 25 ml. Aqueous solutions are prepared from the powder ex tempore.
Storage: in the place protected from light.
Acid solution boric spirit (Solutio Acidi borici spirituosa of 0,5% , 1% ; 2% ; 3% ; 5% ). Supports 0,5; 1; 2; 3 or 5 g of boric acid, alcohol of ethyl 70% to 100 ml. Apply as an antiseptic agent in the form of ear drops 3 - 5 drops 2 - 3 times a day.
Release form: in bottles on 10 ml.
