Minium lead technical

Lead minium is made at chemical plants by spraying of the heated metal lead in air or oxygen and rapid cooling of the received product. Other, less widespread way is heating and oxidation of the melted lead in the atmosphere of oxygen; the received oxides mill further in mills. The received lead minium is packed into steel, wooden or plastic barrels, and also into multilayer paper bags on 50 kg and less. The lead minium intended for production of qualitative paint or for filling of plastic and rubber is subjected to careful crushing in jet mills, and intended for production of accumulators received from chemically pure lead.
Lead minium has application as very qualitative orange pigment and soil, and also is used as a filler of rubber products and plastics. Lead minium — a strong oxidizer, and it has caused high antikorrozioyny properties of paints on its basis: reacting with iron, it oxidizes it before receiving a dense film of black iron oxide (II), insoluble in water and not passing oxygen from air. The steel structures covered with lead minium do not rust even in sea water, however in the majority of the countries production of paints from lead minium is strongly limited because of its toxicity. On the volume of use use of lead minium in glassmaking (crystal, optical glass, radiation resistant and protective glass) is big. It has a certain value as a desiccant, the catalyst, a component of "lead putties". Small on volume, but very important sector of use of lead minium is its application for protection against gamma radiation and for receiving other compounds of lead: dioxide, carbonate, acetate and so forth. Small, but lead minium is important in production of thermite explosive substances. Minium also in the form of PbO (sometimes Pb3O4) is one of the main reagents of assaying, kollektiruyushchy noble metals from fusion of an ore blend. Degree of solubility of gold and silver in the lead which is formed as a result of assay melting is not limited.
